The River

Romans 8:12-25
Unknown twists and turns
and white rock-strewn, weed-flecked turbulence,
eddies,
and backwash stillness,
await me.

Sometimes, speed and splash are needed
(not contrived, nor driven),
followed by places of essential pausing,
gently and softly lit.

Not much is known
except the process
and the Companioning.

Thankfully, what awaits
is unseen
allowing delightful gifts,
surprise,
tender things unthought,
visitations beyond dreaming,
sustaining hopefulness
to be cherished
amid mystery,
tears of passion,
savoured, still silence,
and moments of flaming, dancing light.
