Eruptions of the Spirit

Can any single thing
a hope or dream,
a long cherished way of prayer,
remain safe
in the presence of birth?

Outpourings of the Spirit
bear the threat of change,
too free for old, familiar ways
become barren.

Flowers in newly moistened desert
transform with beauty and delight
harsh, red soil,
grey skeletons of spinifex and mulga,
strong colours, cruel hard lines.

What wild erupting
in my heart,
among friends,
awaits
its
incandescent
time?
