I Am

Perhaps only God can say
surely,
'I am'.

I, fickle, spluttering flame,
hardly claim such a knowing
of self.
How hardly seen
is the core.

I do know this middle-aged wanderer
of no outstanding and particular merit,
savours

     beauty
     good food
     coffee shops
           alone
           or with a friend,

     justice being realised,

     holy moments filled with Presence,

points of new love-filled light in another,

and that there is within
a fitful
stubborn questing,
myriad Shalom-fragranced
images
dancing the dawn.
