8-Ball
October 31st, 2009The winner holds the table,
Holds it against all comers.
Every night, he challenges.
Players, shoot your best...
One by one they challenge,
One by one they fall, and the
Last one at the table
Gets to play again, and
Again and again - but
Making the shots takes practice;
Every winner practices - a lot.

Birthplace of the Blues
October 28th, 2009
Down the Mississippi Delta where the
Early Blues were born,
Listen softly to the sound
That surrounds you, and soothes you,
And takes you smoothly home.

Defending Against Intelligent Weapons
October 25th, 2009So little defense! You cannot climb
Under a desk to hide, and he's no
Idiot who smiles and in utter calm
Creeps up next to you with his bomb.
In fact, his preprogramming insists he
Die for his reward. Be proactive! Your
Enemy is the programmer, and his boss.

Hope is the Handmaiden of Desire
October 22nd, 2009Pulsing, throbbing, your heart races
And your only thoughts are focused on
Something that has caught your mind's eye
So completely that your energy
Is totally focused, and nothing can intrude
Or interfere with you now, and yes,
Now all reason is beyond hope.

And the Greatest of These
October 21st, 2009One seeks happiness by trying to be unhappy less and less,
Not feeling comfortable when afraid, for fear is being unsure,
Less secure, but bliss is being unaware, more.
Yet bravery is being fearless more, and more aware.
Energy is good, but anger is best when dissipated fully,
Making it easier to love, best when shared completely.
Of sadness, we appreciate it better yesterday and the day before,
Then utter sorrow? Grief occurs when love is lost irrevocably.
It's true that joy enfolds when love is appreciated, and
Our sense of peace is felt when all is forgiven...
Noble, yes, but forgiveness occurs when love is shared.

Just What I've Always Wanted
October 19th, 2009About now you're going through a list of things,
Thinking about what you've already given, trying to
Imagine what he would like, what he needs. What the hell,
Every time you get to this point you remember what he said...

Getting to Know You
October 18th, 2009Adieu by Birgitta
Or was it love, that
Need to express with
Emotion, how we care
Not about what we do
In our own lives but
Grope for stuff with
Hope to discover the
Things we need; ever
Searching and so now
Time flees. We go to
A safe haven, a calm
Nest, proven to be a
Destiny sought again

Piracy

Police aren't always around to protect you,
Let alone protect your belongings.
Unless you know someone at the top
None of your possessions are secure.
Don't make the mistake of believing that
Everyone can count on the government;
Real piracy starts at the top of the ladder.

Global Warming and Perturbations
October 8th, 2009What if I told you it was all a lie?
Al Gore lied. Who would you believe?
Right - who am I?
Maybe if I explained where I'm coming from,
In so many words, would you hear me out?
Now, I'm not going to try to snow you, but
Get your thinking cap on - you'll need it!
The earth sits in a rather complex part of the galaxy.
Right now, in your life time, you have seen the
Earth orbit around the sun once times your age in years.
Now, multiply this number by several million (years)
During which time this earth has heated up and cooled off
Not just once or twice but thousands of times.
Our planet perturbations, coupled with those of the sun,
Will tell you positively - "Been there, Done that." Period!

Perturbation is a term used in astronomy to describe alterations to an object's orbit caused by gravitational interactions with bodies external to the system formed by the object and its parent body (for example, a star and its planet, or a planet and its satellite).
Global warming may be a trend, a real phenomenon. It is NOT man-made, and the time frame involved far transcends anything we may hope to manifest control over. We will, as has always been the case, evolve to adapt to the reality of our situation. Time frame: thousands of years.
Quiet Time
October 5th, 2009along the far shore,
where the house rests
and the family does what
you know must be done
for the night;
reading kid's stories
or turning down the covers.
more likely than not
it will be quiet soon, and
time for me to return.
as soon as I'm done here.
letting the peace settle,
letting go, I'll row back.

Wine and Cheese
October 3rd, 2009Good day it was,
One of those 'keepers' that
Offers itself rarely, that
Develops slowly, without plan.
That's the best part, not
Imagining feelings in advance,
Making no effort but simply
Enjoying the moment, and
Savoring the taste when it's ripe.

Highwayman
October 2nd, 2009Caught together, brought together for posterity, and
Loving what they do so naturally, it is with
Awe and a sense of honor that we
Say their names: Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson;
Stars all: Kris Kristofferson, John Cash.
An era has passed, a time when a single stage
Caught these four men sharing tunes, laughter,
Themselves, together, and we loved it. I did.
