Getting There
August 31st, 2009Perhaps it's obvious, but
Under the rules of golf,
The ball must first get there -
Then you can putt.

The Trashpicker
August 30th, 2009So why pick me?
Everyone knows someone who
Can be trusted not to
Reveal those deep dark
Events in their life, but
This is too much to ask.

Remember This!
August 29th, 2009There may be a way to
Have a more
Eeffective reminder system.
Look around for an
Itsy bitsy marmoset,
The size you see here is
The best, and
Let the little fellow
Enjoy hanging on
To your index finger.
Have him remain
In that position and
Not chatter or
Give any distraction, for
So long as you need him.

The Picture Hanging
August 28th, 2009Like it or not,
Every time I re-
Arrange my pictures, I
Keep getting my feet wet.

The Storm
August 27th, 2009Looking far out on the ocean
I imagine a ship sailing a
Great distance in order to get
Home. I imagine it has
Traveled to many ports, it
Has had a long voyage
Of peace and calm...
Until now! Below me are
Strong winds and
Extreme seas - hazardous homecoming!

Wipe Out!
August 26th, 2009Fun day at the races, at
Least that's how
It started out...
People cheering, heart
Pounding, the thrill of
Extreme excitement! Then
Down motorcycle, and time stops.

The Missing Piece

Come here, kitty", she called,
And you know how felines are...
They won't come when called and yet
Somehow that doesn't seem to matter.

Joker
August 24th, 2009
When the deal is over,
In your hand you find the
Little fellow with the
Droll grin.
Cautiosly, you look
Around at the other players,
Risking they will see your excitement.
Don't be fooled - the joke's on you!

Ghost Editing
August 23rd, 2009
Creativity is an elusive force,
One which many seek and some
Never find. We all have, or have
Seen in others, times when we've tried to
Create something, a drawing, a story, an
Image of something that we've tried to
Encapsulate for posterity. When we're
Not 'getting it', not getting the special
Connection we're looking for, maybe we should
Enter stage right. What would Grandpa have said?

Sharing personal information? It is
Easy to think 'No problem'!, but take
Care and follow this simple rule:
Unless you made the phone call yourself, never
Reveal credit card or bank account numbers,
Even your social security number, to anyone.

Gallery
August 20th, 2009Ever study a painting?
Maybe notice a little odd
Background item, something not
Exactly in keeping with other
Details in the painting? A
Drawing tells a story, both an
Event the artist is capturing and
Details about the artist himself.

The Coronation
Long Live the Queen
August 19th, 2009
Me? I was 10, I remember,
Year was 1952. I never thought to
Question the trappings of royalty,
Until King George died. And in that era
Everyone went to theatres to watch a newsreel,
Events such as this were a highlight.
No TV's then, not as we have today.

You take your pick. Whatever taste
Takes your fancy, you now

So you can do some research.

Nothing to Fear
At peace with the world
August 17th, 2009
Fear is something you learn,
Right from the start.
If we get hurt, or burned,
Especially when we are
Not anticipating pain, we
Draw ourselves in tightly, and we
Shudder in fear of getting
Hurt again. This we have learned
In response to pain...
Pleasure occurs in the absence of fear.

The Killing Fields
August 16th, 2009
People died, in the 1970s and '80s.
Hundreds of thousands died; men, women, children.
Nobody knows the exact count, and
Only a few survived to
Make the story public.
People died and yet, in 2009,
Even though we know the killers,
Not one has been brought to justice.
Here is the story of one of many killers.

Which head? What?
August 15th, 2009
If you had to look, then
Look again, you'll probably
Look a third time.
Unless, of course, you're a zebra.
So when the obvious
Isn't so obvious (just because
One thinks they see clearly), sometimes it's
Nice to challenge one's viewpoint.

You should be poached for
Even thinking like that!
Get real! You've
Got no chance in
Hell to score there!
Even if you could,
And you can't, she
Doesn't really exist!

Money doesn't go as far as it did,
You find your money goes to
The grocer, to the gas station, and you'll
Want more food, more gas, and Shell
Oil and their like aren't giving a
Cash gift just because you're poor.
Every day, look around, prices climb.
Newly minted dollars are printed. I
Take a close look, take stock of it all,
Slammed, as it were, against my retirement wall.

Rainy Night
August 12th, 2009
Rainy night, strong wind chill,
One of those nights when you
Yearn for a glass of cognac
And maybe test your luck.
Look for her tonight, that lady...
Fortune doesn't wait or drink cognac;
Luck has her own aura,
Uses your whims, feels your tremor...
So call your friends, now, and
Have them come over for a glass.

Fond Parting
August 11th, 2009
By that faraway
Look in your eye it's
Obvious you're leaving;
We share this urge, I think.
Maybe (we agree), we will
Each find what we need,
A sense of self...
Kind and gentle
In caring for each other, the
Strength to be ourselves, and
Supportive of the bonds we share.

Start by solving for one
Unknown at a time.
Do you know, there is only
One solution? Since you
Know this to be true,
Unravel the puzzle square by square.

Looking in the mirror
I see why some are
Kind
Enough to say "Your
Father looks just like you",
And we laugh...
Then again,
He's my Dad, and
Everyone knows he's a
Real funny guy!

Behind the Scenes
August 9th, 2009
Working all day long,
Every day, morning
Becomes night and
Maybe something gets
Accomplished - maybe not...
Some days are like that,
Totally innocuous in
Every little way, but
Right now, you see what I've done?

Baseball - I Love This Game
August 9th, 2009One day, I was
Up at my usual
Time (04:00am), and
In a moment of idle curiosity I
Noticed that my web site was
Less active that I wanted.
Effectively, I was looking
For ways to improve the
Traffic to my site.
From that thought, I guess,
It was a case of one thing leading to
Elsewhere, until I discovered I could
Link up with the Blogging world and
Darn if that isn't why you're here now!

Solving for 'X'
August 7th, 2009Fortunately, when I am
Really challenged, I
Understand that
Somewhere in front of me
There is a solution available.
Right at the moment, however,
A real headache looms;
Taking stock of the problem,
I categorize my
Options, and carefully
Note everything that
Stands between me and success.

...Under the Sun
August 6th, 2009Sometimes I get excited, and
Have to tell you so,
All a-twitter and a-bubbly, you
Really ought to know...
I guess you'll want to tell me
Not to go too fast, and I
Guess that's why we're friends.
The times we've had together,
Happy as they've been, are all
Elementary.
Now we are getting older, and
Even though that's true
We'll be getting old together
So what else is new?

The First Comment
August 6th, 2009There always has to be the first time - the first chicken from the first egg, the first air flight by man using mechanical devices... and this is the first blog in this commentary.
It serves, initially, as a simple place-holder. That's all - yet the transition from zero to one is an immense leap in reality. Ta-da!
